Garrett’s 20-year career in Architecture has spanned a wide variety of building types and sizes, practices, paradigms, and collaborations. A self-professed generalist, Garrett relishes architecture’s location at the intersection of art, science, culture, and craft. A love of the outdoors and passion for humanistic urbanism brought him to Portland in 1995, where he has worked ever since on the design of residential projects both large and small, community centers, schools, office spaces, retail environments, and religious buildings. To Garrett, the practice of architecture is an endless, delightful search for that elusive magic where poetry and practicality cohabit in symbiosis, where the body and senses are knit with land, city, and sky. Garrett has also served as an Adjunct faculty member at the Portland State School of Architecture teaching numerous design studios and lecture courses since 2000.
